The Glass House Season 1 Episode 6: The Glass House Can Be Lonely with Daniel and Christina Im

Ministry is lonely for multiple reasons, but two of those reasons is because vulnerability is scary and trust is hard-earned. Friendships can be tricky and fragile. And few people truly understand what it’s like to live inside the glass house—it can be a lonely, isolated place.

Daniel and Christina Im of Beulah Alliance Church in Alberta, Canada had a major transition in their home and ministry journey when the baton of lead pastor was passed along to Daniel two years ago. In this episode the Ims discuss what they’ve learned about vulnerability with relationships within the local church, tell a story of a past experience with broken trust in ministry, and answer the question of how much church-related conflict or issues a pastor should share with a spouse.

Quotes from this episode:

“I used to be quite vulnerable on social media. But now that we’re really living in people’s lives I feel like I don’t have the energy to be vulnerable on social media, because I choose to be vulnerable with people who are face to face with me.”

“The farther your reach is, the deeper you need to dig into the Word.”

“Yes, Jesus says, ‘Come to me all you who are weary and burdened …’ and we do need to give it to Jesus, but we are called as a community to carry one another’s burdens.”

“I’m now a lot slower to trust, but I’ve learned to take baby steps … because you can live out of reaction to the past and be stuck in chains to that. But you are not your past.”

“There are moments when I don’t know what I’m doing, but I know God has called us here.”

“Yes, it’s hard, but we get to see the body of Christ work together. … We get to show other people we are Christians by our love.”

“Are you waking up early enough so that while all the ‘watchers’ are sleeping, you are having intimate moments with Jesus? … I think it’s important so that we’re not faking it. Because we’re always on display.”
